Newsweek's America's Best-In-State Hospitals 2024
Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) ranked the highest score among Granite State hospitals by Newsweek's America's Best-In-State Hospitals 2024 list.
Three other Dartmouth Health system member hospitals were included in the annual rankings. Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, NH; Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor, VT; and Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) in Bennington, VT.
American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus, Resuscitation Gold (Adult and Pediatric) Achievement Awards 2023
These awards are given to healthcare facilities that meet specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients and commitment to treating in-hospital cardiac arrest, ultimately helping to improve survival rates.
Certified for advanced stroke care by The Joint Commission
In 2022, DHMC received the distinction of being named a Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission, in collaboration with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. As a Comprehensive Stroke Center, the most advanced level of certification, DHMC has been recognized as a hospital that has the capacity to both receive and treat complex stroke cases. DHMC received an "A" Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for fall 2022. This national distinction recognizes our achievements in protecting patients from harm and error in the hospital.
Forbes Best-in-State Employer for 2021
DHMC and Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics are proud to be named a Best-in-State Employer by Forbes. The third annual list was compiled by surveying 80,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 500 employees. Employers were rated on a variety of criteria including safety of work environment, competitiveness of compensation, opportunities for advancement, and openness to telecommuting.

In February 2024, two hundred and eighteen of the 248 Dartmouth Health physicians across 58 pediatric and adult specialties recognized in New Hampshire Magazine's "Top Doctors" survey care for patients at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics.

DHMC designated as Center of Excellence by Parkinson’s Foundation
DHMC has been designated by the Parkinson’s Foundation as a Parkinson’s Foundation Center of Excellence, one of just 47 Centers of Excellence around the world and 37 nationwide, and the only one in northern New England. The Foundation highlighted DHMC for its person-centered, comprehensive and integrated approach to care, education and research; exceptional communication and collaboration with the team, external providers, patients and families; a state-of-the-art neurosurgery facility; and the Dartmouth Centers for Health & Aging’s Aging Resource Center.
DHMC designated as a Level 1 Trauma Center
In March 2022, DHMC was re-accredited as a Level 1 Trauma Center and a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
Nation’s only rural Level 1 Geriatric Emergency Department designated at DHMC
The Geriatric Emergency Department at DHMC has earned Level 1 accreditation from the American College of Emergency Physicians, making the medical center the only rural academic medical center in the United States to earn Level 1 accreditation and one of only 14 hospitals nationwide to hold the distinction.

DHMC was included in Lown Institute Hospitals Index’s top 10 list of hospitals avoiding overuse. DHMC currently holds the number 8 spot in the top 10 list and was in the top 3 on Lown Institute’s list of teaching hospitals at avoiding overuse.

Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital has been awarded a 4-star rating on Medicare.gov’s “Hospital Compare” list.

The Patient Safety Movement Foundation presented DHMC with its 5-Star Hospital award for making commitments in alignment with the Patient Safety Movement Foundation’s evidence-based Actionable Patient Safety Solutions (APSS). The APSS address daily patient safety challenges that hospitals face daily and offer solutions designed to help eliminate preventable patient deaths.

DHMC has been recognized as a Baby-Friendly® birth facility by Baby-Friendly USA, Inc., a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
Men's Health Center designated as the first Center of Excellence for GreenLight™ Laser Therapy treatment
DHMC's Men's Health Center, under the co-direction of Michael Grant, MD, has been designated as the first Center of Excellence in the United States for GreenLight™ Laser Therapy treatment, a minimally invasive outpatient procedure for men looking to treat their benign prostatic hyperplasia.
